Why do the copper tubes in my bathroom turn a green colour?

This is a natural occurrence in copper and is referred to as oxidisation. The actual green colouration is called a patina. Though this is a natural occurrence, it has become highly fashionable and many people actually try to accelerate the process.

Is it safe to use copper in my home’s plumbing?

Copper is the material of choice in a number of applications, including domestic plumbing. Since it is impermeable and biostatic, contaminants can’t penetrate it, making it beneficial for your family’s health. Copper also inhibits the growth of harmful bacteria.

Plastic tubing is cheaper than copper. Why should I opt for copper?

Copper can withstand extreme conditions in terms of pressure and temperature without fail.

Will I need to replace the entire copper tubing system in my home if I want to extend or repair it?

Not at all. An added benefit of copper is that all tubing and fittings are universally compatible. You could literally solder fittings and tubes from any manufacturer in order to repair or extend your system.
